Left-wingers peppering EP reports with references to abortion

euparlAt the European Parliament, there are two new attempts by left-wing politicians to provide the killing of unborn children with the appearance of legitimacy.

The first one, entitled ‘’Egalité entre les femmes et les hommes au sein de l’Union européenne en 2013’’, is a legally non-binding “initiative report” emanating from the FEMM committee.

The Draft report has been written by Marc Tarabella (S&D, Belgian), and is going to be amended by the FEMM committee.

The draft is at this stage available only in French. In § 14 it states:

It is strange that, in the deluded mind of the drafter, abortion is required to ensure “equality”. What he seems to say is that women are “equal” to men only when they are not pregnant…

2/ The second draft resolution, “The EU and the global development framework after 2015”, is from the DEVE committee. The draft, written by Ivo Davor Stier (EPP, Croat) is unproblematic, but amendments proposed by left-wing MEPs contain many references to abortion, family planning, SRHR. notably amendments n°28, 178, and 324.

Amendment n°324 pretends to improve maternal health through the promotion of abortion :

[The European Parliament] emphasises that universal respect for and access to SRHR contributes to the achievement of all the health-related MDGs: prenatal care and the ability to avoid high-risk births, reduce infant and child mortality; points out that family planning, maternal health and safe abortion services are important elements to save women’s lives.”
