The war against same-sex “marriage” is won … at least intellectually

While we must slowly get used to the thought that the US Supreme Court, in a decision that is expected before the summer break, might push judicial activism to new and unprecedented levels by effectively outlawing the understanding of marriage that was common to all human civilizations at all times, there is good news from another front of the cultural war. That news is that on the intellectual level the war against same-sex “marriage” is over, and the supporters of marriage as a union between a man and a woman have won.

This is our impression from reading a book that was published in the US last year that, although written for an American readership (and therefore full of references to the US political system and the case-law of US law courts), can unreservedly be recommended to European readers:

Robert. R. Reilly: Making Gay Okay – How Rationalizing Homosexual Behavior Is Changing Everything, Ignatius Press (2014)

One reviewer wrote: if you intend to read only one book on on homosexuality, natural law theory, and the radical changes now being instituted within our culture, let it be this one!

It is a relatively short book, soberly written andwithout unnecessary polemics. It is easily readable even for those not too familiar with the subject – yet it explores the issue of homosexuality and the “gay agenda” in depth, explaining the underlying philosophical assumptions as well as the social and political implications. Every argument the “gay lobby” has ever brought forward is followed up to its finest ramifications and, with compelling arguments, confounded. The conclusion is that the “gay agenda” is not about the emancipation of a once oppressed minority. It is not about some “equal rights” that the non-gay majority might grant to the gay minority without jeopardizing its own interests or, indeed, the common good of society as a whole. On the contrary, accepting the rationalization of sexually deviant behaviour means “to change everything”. It implies a complete and radical re-definition of the most fundamental assumptions about man and his destiny: good is turned into bad and bad into good, debauchery into love, disease into health, black into white. Ultimately, the wilfulness of a few is made to supersede the freedom of all. It is impossible for a country to embrace the “gay rights” agenda and accept same-sex “marriage” without being turned into a tyranny. What is at stake here are not just some outdated “traditional values”, but freedom and democracy of us all.

This book represents the total and complete victory over the “gay rights” agenda on the argumentative and intellectual level. The “gay rights” lobby may have the support of Hollywood and much of the US and European mainstream media, it may have potent donors such as George Soros or Bill Gates, and it may have managed to place its supporters into key positions in politics and in the judiciary. But on the argumentative level its defeat is complete and total – and this is what will be decisive in the longer perspective.

May this masterpiece be translated into many languages, and may it find many readers throughout Europe!
