Question for written answer to the Commission (Rule 130) by Luigi Morgano (S&D), 7 October 2015:
Subject: Potential action against the International Planned Parenthood Federation European Network (IPPF-EN)
On 14 July 2015, following an undercover investigation conducted by two volunteers at the Center for Medical Progress in the USA, the first of some dozen disturbing videos was published in which senior managers at the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), which is part of an international network operating in the field of family planning, acknowledged that the organisation was involved in activities such as trading in body organs, harvesting and selling the body parts of aborted children and whole dead foetuses and failing to correctly follow abortion procedures so as to recover organs more easily.
As has also been reported in the media (CNN, Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, Politico, etc.), the FBI has now launched its own investigation into this scandal.
1. Is the Commission aware of these events?
2. Until such time as this investigation has ended and those responsible are identified, does it not feel it would be more prudent and appropriate, in the light of Article 3(2) of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, which prohibits making the human body and its parts as such a source of financial gain, to suspend the IPPF-EN from the transparency register of the EU institutions and prevent it from accessing any form of EU funding?
